Friday, December 16th - Christmas Shoebox Project for the Homeless

Advent is a wonderful time of year.  It is a time of waiting and preparing for the Lord.  One way of doing this is through taking care of others.

As we plan for the Christmas season, the Eighth Grade's service project was to pack shoeboxes with goodies for the homeless.  Included in the shoeboxes (54 total) are items brought in by all the students:  drink boxes, candy, snacks, lip balm, toothpaste/toothbrushes, gloves, hand lotion and hand sanitizer.  Along with the shoeboxes are knitted hats and blankets donated by the faculty.  These will be distributed on Christmas Eve to the poor on the streets of Washington, D.C.

Friday, November 18 - ExxonMobil presents grant to St. Mary's

Thanks to the efforts of Holtzman Oil Corporation and Mike Deleonibus of ADCO Service Center at 7703 Annapolis Road, Lanham, MD, St. Mary's School has been awarded a $500 ExxonMobil Educational Alliance grant for math and science programs.  The money will be used to purchase a digital scale and microscopes for our science lab.  The ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program is designed to provide Exxon retailers like Mike Deleonibus with an opportunity to invest in the future of their communities through educational grants to neighborhood schools.

Sunday, October 22 - Bishop Thomas Mar Eusebius confirmed our 8th graders with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Wednesday, September 21 - St. Mary's School Celebrates International Day of Peace.

Each class wore a different color of the rainbow to a peace ceremony in front of the school in which everyone pledged their hands, their hearts and their words for peace.   Then students in the 5th and 6th grades planted pinwheels that they had created as part of the Pinwheels for Peace project in the grass by the sidewalk.

You can see some of the pinwheels under the Arts tab on this website.
